Installing QuarkXPress on Windows®

  1. Disable any virus protection software. If you are concerned about a virus infecting your computer, use virus protection software to check the installer, and then disable any virus protection software before proceeding
  2. Double-click the setup.exe icon. The QuarkXPress 7.3 - Setup dialog box displays.


  3. Click Next. The License Agreement screen displays
  4. Read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms of the agreement, click I accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept the terms, click I do not accept the terms in the license agreement.

    NOTE You must accept the terms of the licence agreement to continue.


  5. Click Next. The Software Verification screen displays. Enter the validation code provided with the installer.


  6. Click Next. The Customer Information screen displays. Enter your user name and organization information in the User Name and Organization fields. In the Install this application for: area, click Anyone who uses this computer (all users) or Only for me


  7. Click Next. The User Registration Information screen displays. Enter your information in the appropriate fields


  8. Click Next. The Destination Folder screen displays the path to the folder where QuarkXPress will be installed. To install to a different folder, click Change and then click OK.


  9. Click Next. The Setup Type screen displays.
    • Click Complete to install all of the program files.
    • Click Custom to install only the program files you select.

  11. If you clicked Custom, the Custom Setup dialog box displays. Click the disclosure boxes to view individual installable items. Click an item to view its description in the Feature Description area. Click the drop-down menu next to each item name and choose an option:
    • This feature will be installed on the local hard drive.
    • This feature and subfeatures will be installed on the local hard drive.
    • This feature will not be available.
    (Not all of the items will display every option.)
    NOTE QuarkXPress requires certain items. You cannot deselect such items.
  12. Click Next. The Ready to Install the Program screen displays. To create a shortcut to launch QuarkXPress on your desktop, check Create a shortcut on the desktop.


  13. Click Install. A progress bar indicates the progress of the installation
  14. A dialog box displays asking if you want to register your copy of QuarkXPress. Choose a registration option.

    Click Yes to register your software with Quark online (see "Performing online registration during installation"). Click No to complete the installation without registering your software (see "Performing online registration after installation"). NOTE If the installer is unable to find a Web browser with a live Internet connection, the installation is completed without registering your software. See "Performing online registration after installation."


  15. Click Finish when the Installation Wizard Completed screen displays


  16. Launch QuarkXPress by double-clicking the application icon. The QuarkXPress Product Activation dialog box displays
  17. Select an activation option
    • Choose Activate automatically using internet (Recommended) to activate automatically using the internet.
    • Choose Obtain Activation Code over the Internet to fill out an online form to activate QuarkXPress. QuarkXPress will generate an installation code. You can copy the installation code from QuarkXPress and paste it into the Retrieve activation or re-activation code Web page. The installation code is used to retrieve an activation code. You can copy the action code from the Web page and paste it into the QuarkXPress Product Action dialog box
    • Choose Enter Activation code if you already have an activation code
    • Choose Try QuarkXPress to try QuarkXPress for 30 days


  18. Click Continue.
