Atomik XML Publisher

Simply faster XML import and export

Atomik XML Publisher

QuarkXPress® is the most widely used design and page layout application in the world and the tool of choice for creative professionals who publish rich content. Historically, organizations focused on print, but today they must deliver content to the Web and other electronic media as quickly and efficiently as possible. eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is the ideal format for this purpose because it separates content from formatting. To enhance your XML capabilities, Quark has teamed with Easypress Technologies to bring you Atomik XML Publisher, a fantastic new suite of XTensions® software for QuarkXPress 7 that grants every user the ability to import and export XML content with the click of a mouse.

Atomik XML Publisher key features

XML export

  • Automatic XML extraction
Extract QuarkXPress layout content as XML with the click of a mouse.
  • Control over box ordering
Specify the order in which content is extracted and even group content using options for grouped, framed, and inline objects. This feature ensures that the structure of the content in the layout is maintained in the XML.
  • Automatic image extraction
Reference any QuarkXPress layout image in the XML, including the file name, image path, and image type. This feature maintains the relationship integrity between text content and images. Image references retain their exact geometric position within a text flow.
  • Support for paragraph- and character-level styling
Identify content using styling information at both the paragraph and character levels. This feature enables highly granular content extraction. For example, an e-mail address and a telephone number within a paragraph of text can be tagged as separate elements.
  • Support for tables
Export tables created in QuarkXPress as structured XML tables or as tab-delimited data using HTML or the CALS table model.
  • Control over exported content
Specify the content to export and the granularity required. For example, you can set up a rule to extract only content that uses a style sheet containing a specific text string (for example, "headline", "body text", or "byline").
  • Optional Inclusion of Formatting in XML
Include a range of QuarkXPress formatting information within the extracted XML. This information includes font face, size, style, and style sheet (including complete style sheet definitions).
  • Support for all common output encodings
Extract XML using the encoding required for your content management system, database, or Web site; for example, UTF-8, UTF-16, ISO-8851, and US ASCII.

XML import

  • Template-driven publishing
Create XML templates in QuarkXPress using placeholders and then merge the XML into the templates for efficient publishing.
  • Hierarchical rules
Work with imported XML regardless of its structure.
  • Ability to automatically style content
Configure rule sets to automatically apply styling or style sheets to text as it is placed on the QuarkXPress page.
  • Context- and attribute-driven styling rules
Apply different styling and other configurable options based on the context of an XML element or its attributes and attribute values.
  • Support for special characters
Use character entity mapping and customizable Unicode® mapping to import and export special characters such as scientific symbols.
  • Ability to add prefixes and suffixes
Automatically add symbols and special characters (such as a new box, a hard return, and tab characters) at the beginning or end of each imported XML element.
  • Automatic bullets and numbering
Add bullets and numbering automatically to imported text.
  • Automatic image import
    Import XML-referenced images automatically.
