Creating PDF files

PDF styles streamline the creation of PDF files in QuarkXPress® 7 so that frequently used settings do not have to be specified manually each time. They can also be shared with other users. We have created several PDF styles you can download below for use in generating consistent PDF files for proofing or final output.

Installation Instructions

follow the steps below.

  1. Install the ICC profiles provided in the QuarkXPress 7 Resource Centre before installing the PDF styles. Otherwise, QuarkXPress 7 may display a "missing profiles" message.
  2. Download the PDF styles archive to your hard drive using the link below.
  3. Choose Edit > Output Styles.
  4. Click Import.
  5. Navigate to and select the PDF style you want to import from the downloaded archive.
  6. Click Open.
  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 to import additional PDF Styles.
  8. Click Save.

Output

To use one of these PDF styles in QuarkXPress 7 choose File > Export > Layout as PDF and select it from the PDF Style drop-down menu.

This archive contains the following files:
  • Press_HighPDF.xml
    When imported this style appears as 'Press - High Quality/High Resolution' in QuarkXPress 7. It can be used to generate high-quality PDF files for use in a prepress or offset printing environment.
  • Print_MediumPDF.xml
    When imported this style appears as 'Print - Medium Quality/Medium Resolution' in QuarkXPress 7. It can be used to generate medium-quality PDF files for use with office or desktop printers.
  • Screen_MediumPDF.xml
    When imported this style appears as 'Screen - Medium Quality/Low Resolution' in QuarkXPress 7. It can be used to generate PDF files that are compact in size with a slightly higher quality than the settings below.
  • Screen_LowPDF.xml
    When imported this style appears as 'Screen - Low Quality/Low Resolution' in QuarkXPress 7. It can be used to generate PDF files with the smallest possible file size for electronic distribution.
  • PDFX1a.xml
    When imported, this style appears as 'PDF/X-1a:2001' in QuarkXPress 7. It can be used to generate PDF files in accordance with the PDF/X-1a:2001 standard for predictable high-quality output. It uses generic colour settings that might not be suitable for all uses. You should change them to match your specific colour goal.
  • PDFX3.xml
    When imported, this style appears as 'PDF/X-3:2002' in QuarkXPress 7. It can be used to generate PDF files in accordance with the PDF/X-3:2002 standard for predictable high-quality output. It uses generic colour settings that might not be suitable for all uses. You should change them to match your specific colour goal.
