Resolved Issues

Following is a list of resolved issues in Quark Publishing System® Classic 3.5.

 

QuarkDispatch XTensions software

  • QuarkXPress® no longer quits unexpectedly when you disable all XTensions software from the XTensions Manager dialog box and choose Quit from the File menu. QuarkXPress disconnects from QuarkDispatch Server and quits normally.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly if you log on to QuarkDispatch Server during AppleScript® GUI scripting.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when left idle for several minutes after connecting to QuarkDispatch Server.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you cancel the check-out of two or more QuarkXPress projects one after the other while QuarkDispatch Server is in the process of restarting.
  • Mac OS® X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly at launch if you press Command+Q (the keyboard shortcut to quit the application) before the QuarkDispatch Log-On dialog box displays.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you change the local folder location in the QuarkDispatch Preferences dialog box (QuarkDispatch > Preferences).
  • Windows® 2000 and Windows XP only: When you use the extended Edit Query dialog box to create and run a query in QuarkXPress, the correct results display in the Query palette regardless of whether you have checked boxes in the extended Edit Query dialog box.
  • QuarkXPress 4.x and 5.x documents no longer blink when you switch between them and a QuarkXPress 6.5 project while connected to QuarkDispatch Server.
  • The character attributes in QuarkXPress no longer change to zero in the following scenario:
    1. You assign an empty text box from a checked-out QuarkXPress project as a QuarkCopyDesk article.
    2. You check out the same article in QuarkCopyDesk.
  • QuarkXPress now retrieves the correct picture file when you attach a QuarkDispatch picture file to a QuarkXPress project and then choose File > Collect for Output.
  • The Query palette highlights the corresponding QuarkCopyDesk article when you select a text box in a checked-out QuarkXPress project that has multiple components. Similarly, QuarkXPress highlights the corresponding text box when you select an article that is attached to the checked-out project in the Query palette.
  • When all fonts are available, the QuarkDispatch XTensions software no longer notifies you about missing fonts in the following scenario:
    1. You assign a text box that contains text as a QuarkCopyDesk article.
    2. You check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk and then check in the same article.
    3. You check out the same article in QuarkXPress.
  • The hierarchy of the layouts in a QuarkXPress project displays correctly in the Query palette in the following scenario:
    1. You check out a QuarkXPress project that contains multiple layouts with attachments.
    2. You change the display mode of the Query palette to Project and Page, Issue and Page, or Publication and Page from the Display drop-down menu.
    3. You check in the project to QuarkDispatch Server.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits when you attempt to open a QuarkXPress project that does not contain text boxes from a local folder in the following scenario:
    1. You ignore a missing font alert when you check out the QuarkXPress project.
    2. You open the QuarkXPress project on a computer where Font Reserve Client is running and the FontReserve XTensions software is enabled in QuarkXPress.
    3. You close the QuarkXPress project.
  • Mac OS X only: Junk characters no longer display on the Font Reserve progress bars in the following scenario:
    1. You ignore a missing font alert when you check out the QuarkXPress project.
    2. You open the QuarkXPress project on a computer where Font Reserve Client is running and the FontReserve XTensions software is enabled in QuarkXPress.
    3. You close the QuarkXPress project.
  • Mac OS X only: A dialog box no longer displays and the project no longer opens when you press Enter in the following scenario:
    1. You ignore a missing font alert when you check out the QuarkXPress project.
    2. You open the QuarkXPress project on a computer where Font Reserve Client is running and the FontReserve XTensions software is enabled in QuarkXPress.
    3. You close the QuarkXPress project.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly in the following scenario:
    1. The Font Reserve client is running and the Font Reserve XTensions software is enabled in QuarkXPress.
    2. You check out a QuarkXPress project that has missing fonts.
    3. You click List Fonts in the Missing Fonts alert.
    4. You close the project and then open it from the Query palette.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress retains all QuarkDispatch preferences when you quit QuarkXPress.
  • Mac OS X only: When you log on to QuarkDispatch Server with the application language set to German and cancel the check-out of an asset, the word continue is now correctly translated.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you check out a replicated asset from QuarkDispatch Server, close it, and check out the asset again.
  • Mac OS X only: The previews of EPS images that have been checked in as previews to QuarkDispatch Server display correctly in the following scenario:
    1. You use QuarkConnect™ to check in an EPS image file that has been saved in Mac OS.
    2. You drag the picture file to a picture box in a QuarkXPress layout.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you drag more than 10 items from the QuarkXPress library, attach different QuarkCopyDesk articles to the items, perform different operations (such as update geometry and update content), and choose QuarkDispatch > Save Project Revision.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you check out a QuarkXPress project template as a project, drag a library item from the Library palette, assign all the text boxes as QuarkCopyDesk articles, check out the articles for editing, and then choose QuarkDispatch > Save Project Revision after checking in all the articles.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you check out multiple layouts (replicated from QuarkDispatch Server 2.2) from QuarkDispatch Server 3.5.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you check out QuarkXPress projects that contain incorrect slug information.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you create two text boxes (one over the other) in a checked-out QuarkXPress project, apply runaround text to the bottom box, enter text in the top box, duplicate both the text boxes to assign them as QuarkCopyDesk articles, and then select the Item tool and double-click the text boxes.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress with the QuarkDispatch XTensions software installed no longer quits unexpectedly when you use the Undo command to move a text box.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress now retains the QuarkDispatch Server log-on information in Preferences. The server information from the previous session displays in the Server drop down menu in the QuarkDispatch Log-On dialog box.
  • Mac OS X only: Shortcut keys no longer display in queries that contain the '/' character.
  • Mac OS X only: The text box no longer displays in the background when you check out a QuarkCopyDesk article that contains a picture box in the background and a text box in the foreground, modify the text, check in the article, and check out the article in QuarkXPress.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you check out a QuarkXPress project (as read-only) that does not match the QuarkDispatch Server-based QuarkXPress preferences and click any button in the Non-Matching Preferences dialog box.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you log on to QuarkDispatch Server and open two Query palettes (with no other palettes open), then close one of the palettes.
  • Mac OS X and Windows only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you log on to QuarkDispatch Server and duplicate a Master page that contains two text boxes that are linked to each other.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkCopyDesk no longer quits unexpectedly when you use the context menu to check in a new article.
  • Mac OS X only: The status icons of the articles in the Query palette are no longer fully colored; only the borders are colored.
  • Mac OS X and Windows XP only: When you open a local copy of a QuarkXPress project that you saved using the Collect for Output command (File > Collect for Output), the items attached to it no longer maintain a link with the QuarkDispatch Server.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly in the following scenario:
    1. You use the Query palette to select a QuarkCopyDesk article that has been replicated through QuarkDispatch Manager.
    2. You click the Attachments Info icon on the Query palette.
  • Mac OS X only: When you open a QuarkXPress project from a QuarkXPress project template, check in the project to QuarkDispatch Server without saving it on your local hard drive, and then check out the same project, the system notifies you that you are checking out a template and that you are unable to check in this project under the same name.
  • Mac OS X only: If QuarkXPress quits unexpectedly and you launch it again and open the same project you were working on, you can attach items from QuarkDispatch Server to the project.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer displays the Minor Repairs dialog box and does not quit unexpectedly when you open an auto-saved file.
  • The Problem Attachment dialog box now displays when you launch QuarkXPress, log on to QuarkDispatch Server, and open a project to which you had attached QuarkCopyDesk articles before QuarkXPress quit unexpectedly.
  • The Query drop-down menu in the Check Out dialog box in QuarkXPress now displays the query you last ran before closing this dialog box.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly when you migrate assets from QPS® Classic 2.x to QPS Classic 3.5, check out a QuarkXPress project from those assets, and choose QuarkDispatch > View Project Revision.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly or displays alerts when you check out multiple QuarkXPress projects (replicated from QuarkDispatch Server 3.0) that contain attachments. The checked-out projects do not lose the attachments, and you can attach QuarkCopyDesk articles to the projects.

QuarkDispatch Server

  • The system no longer loses metadata when you migrate QPS Classic 2.x assets to QPS Classic 3.5.
  • When you replicate a picture from QuarkDispatch 2.2 Server to QuarkDispatch 3.5 Server and attach it to a QuarkXPress project, the detached picture (that you attached initially) is no longer saved in the destination folder when you perform the following functions:
    1. Save revisions of the project and then detach the picture
    2. Rename the picture and attach the renamed picture to the project
    3. Save the project using the Collect for Output command (File > Collect for Output)
  • QuarkDispatch Server no longer quits unexpectedly when you use the Edit Query dialog box from within any QPS Classic client application to append a query with a different publication and section structure than QuarkDispatch Server.
  • Mac OS X only: If QuarkDispatch Server contains a corrupt asset, the application displays a notification at launch and generates a log file that contains details about the corrupt file. You can identify the corrupt file from the log file, delete it from the file server, and launch QuarkDispatch Server again.
  • Mac OS X only: When you check in a modified configuration file, QuarkDispatch Server now registers it automatically.
  • Mac OS X only: When you make changes in the configuration file in QuarkDispatch Administrator and restart QuarkDispatch Server, QuarkDispatch Server now updates the list of logged-on users and the server start time.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Server now displays correct details about CPU usage.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Server no longer quits unexpectedly when multiple users log on to it during peak hours and perform QPS Classic operations.

QuarkDispatch Manager

  • QuarkDispatch Manager now supports basic AppleScript scripting operations. You can view the QuarkDispatch Manager AppleScript dictionary in Script Editor on Mac OS.
  • You can now recover damaged files that were replicated from QuarkDispatch Server 2.x to QuarkDispatch Server 3.5.
  • QuarkDispatch Manager no longer requires an unreasonable amount of time to delete an asset. Also, the QuarkDispatch Manager Workspace window updates immediately after the asset is deleted.
  • When you log on to QuarkDispatch Server from both QuarkDispatch Manager and QuarkXPress (on Windows 2000) using the same user name, open the Query palette in QuarkXPress, and delete all the assets in the Workspace window in QuarkDispatch Manager while the file server is not connected to the computer on which QuarkDispatch Manager is running, QuarkDispatch Manager no longer closes the Workspace window and the system no longer notifies you to attempt the operation again.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Manager no longer quits unexpectedly when you duplicate a QuarkDispatch asset.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Manger now retains the QuarkDispatch Server log-on information in Preferences.
  • When you launch QuarkDispatch Manager while custom-built XTensions software and default XTensions software is enabled and click the menu item added by the custom XTensions software, the application no longer displays the QuarkCopyDesk Archive Preferences dialog box.
  • QuarkDispatch Manager no longer quits unexpectedly when you change the display mode of the Workspace window to Project and Page from the Display drop-down menu while it displays a large number of assets (6,000 or more).
  • Mac OS X only: The scrollbar now works properly in all the dialog boxes that display while assigning, checking in, saving a revision of, or editing the header information of QuarkCopyDesk articles in QuarkXPress, QuarkCopyDesk, or QuarkDispatch Manager.
  • Mac OS X only: When you double-click the title bar of a Workspace window in QuarkDispatch Manager, the system minimizes the window to its title bar and not to the dock bar.

QuarkDispatch Administrator

  • Mac OS X only: When you scroll through a configuration file report to view its content, the complete report displays.
  • Mac OS X only: You can now create a PDF file report.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Administrator is now able to connect to QuarkDispatch Server while it is running in dormant mode. The alert notifying you of a TCP/IP network connect error no longer displays if the computer name matches the host name in the host configuration.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Administrator no longer quits unexpectedly in the following scenario:
    1. You check out the configuration file.
    2. You quit QuarkDispatch Administrator.
    3. You click Cancel in the confirmation dialog box to return to the application.
    4. You check in the configuration file and then click Cancel in the Check In dialog box.

QuarkCopyDesk

  • Mac OS X only: QuarkCopyDesk now supports basic AppleScript scripting. You can view the QuarkCopyDesk AppleScript dictionary in Script Editor on Mac OS.
  • When you check out a QuarkCopyDesk article in the Galley view, add a new component, and then check in the article to QuarkDispatch Server, the application no longer displays an alert, and the article checks in successfully.
  • Mac OS X only: The QuarkDispatch Preferences dialog box now displays correctly without duplicate names.
  • Mac OS X only: If you use a U.S. validation code to install QuarkCopyDesk (with the OS language set to English/US English), no alert displays, and the installation completes successfully.
  • Quark has correctly updated the minimum system requirements in the QuarkCopyDesk 3.5 installation guide ("Install Guide Beta.pdf") for Mac OS X and Windows.
  • When you edit or delete text in the Galley view while connected to QuarkDispatch Server, the text no longer jumps to the title bar of QuarkCopyDesk.
  • When you assign a text box that contains an anchored box filled with a new color as a QuarkCopyDesk article, check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk, and copy and paste the anchored box multiple times, the application no longer changes the background color of the box or quits unexpectedly.
  • You can successfully print the header information (File > Print > View > Print Header check box) of a QuarkCopyDesk article (created from the section) in the Galley view.
  • During the QuarkCopyDesk launch process, the splash screen closes automatically after a few seconds, and the QuarkDispatch Log-On dialog box displays.
  • QuarkCopyDesk no longer quits unexpectedly when you export text from QuickWire as a QuarkCopyDesk article and change the text in the Galley view.
  • Mac OS X only: When you check out a QuarkCopyDesk article and set the colors preferences for the Redline XTensions software (Preferences > Application > Redline), the colors display as set.
  • The Measurement palette displays the correct font when you perform updated geometry in QuarkCopyDesk in the following scenario:
    1. You create a QuarkCopyDesk article and apply the style sheet to all of the text.
    2. You break the content into headings and paragraphs.
    3. You select a heading and apply a different font type and bold font style.
    4. You check in the article.
    5. You attach the article to a QuarkXPress project and check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk.
  • When you create a project with two text boxes in QuarkXPress, assign one of the text boxes as a QuarkCopyDesk article, check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk, change the geometry of the text box in QuarkXPress, click OK in the update geometry alert in QuarkCopyDesk, check in the article, and then check out the article, the article now retains the page picture.
  • Mac OS X only: When you assign a QuarkCopyDesk article from QuarkXPress, check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk, update the article geometry in QuarkXPress, close the article, open the article in QuarkCopyDesk, click OK in the update geometry alert, and then check in the article, the application no longer displays an alert about bad file format.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkCopyDesk no longer quits unexpectedly when left idle for more than one minute after you enter text in the open template file.
  • Mac OS X only: When you edit the header information of a QuarkCopyDesk article and route it to another user, information pertaining to the article becomes unavailable in the Query palette.
  • Mac OS X only: The application no longer quits unexpectedly in the following scenario:
    1. You uncheck Use Server XPress Preferences in the configuration file window while appending XPress preferences to or replacing XPress preferences in the configuration file.
    2. You apply a type style to the text in a new QuarkCopyDesk article.
    3. You choose QuarkDispatch > Save Revision.
    4. You add a component in the Galley view.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer displays an alert notifying you of detached components when you attach a few components of a multi-component QuarkCopyDesk article to a QuarkXPress project, check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk, add more components to the article and the QuarkXPress project, and attach other unattached components of the same article to a text box.
  • Mac OS X only: The Style Sheets palette remains active if it is open when you create an article in QuarkCopyDesk.
  • Mac OS X only: Shadows no longer display in QuarkCopyDesk menus when you launch QuarkCopyDesk in Classic mode.
  • When you change the geometry of a checked-out QuarkCopyDesk article and check in the article to QuarkDispatch Server before clicking OK in the Update Geometry dialog box, the application saves the changes successfully.
  • Mac OS X only: When you change the view of a QuarkCopyDesk article to FullScreen or Galley, insert a note with a few lines of text, and then use the Query palette to check in the article to QuarkDispatch Server while the note is still open, the note no longer displays in the Query palette.
  • Mac OS X only: In a QuarkXPress project, if you assign a text box that contains a note and text in bold or italics, as a QuarkCopyDesk article, check out the article in QuarkCopyDesk, and then enter text into the note, the text style no longer applies to the note.

Notes XTensions software

  • When you check out a QuarkCopyDesk article that another user checked in as a read-only article, the article now displays the inserted notes.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly in the following scenario:
    1. You open and repair the library that you created and saved in QuarkXPress 4.
    2. You click List in the Missing Fonts dialog box to display the missing fonts.
  • Mac OS X only: When you open or check out QuarkCopyDesk articles you created in or replicated from QPS 2.1.1 in QuarkCopyDesk 3.5, the first two letters of the notes in the articles now display in the Galley view.

Other Issues

  • In QuarkXPress, keyboard shortcuts (such as Command+O to open a QuarkXPress project) now work as designed, even when the open Query palette is active.
  • Mac OS X only: When you change a publication name while checking in a QuarkCopyDesk article, QuarkDispatch Server no longer displays the following alert: "Unknown error -1".
  • Mac OS X only: The system no longer displays an alert that the connection failed when you launch QuarkXPress or QuarkCopyDesk on the same computer on which QuarkDispatch Server is running and log on to QuarkDispatch Server.
  • The system alerts you when you select an invalid publication while checking in a QuarkXPress project.
  • QuarkCopyDesk now supports long file names (more than 32 characters).
  • When you drag a QuarkCopyDesk article from the Query palette to a text box in a QuarkXPress project (which you opened from a QuarkXPress template), the following alert no longer displays: "Slugs have not been validated yet. This is an internal Quark error only!"
  • The system now correctly sorts lists in the Query palette in any QPS Classic client application when you use the Display drop-down menu to change the display mode of the Query palette and check out an asset that is not the first asset in the list.
  • The Server drop-down menu in the QuarkDispatch Log-On dialog box lists all QuarkDispatch servers that are running in the same subnet. You no longer need to enter the IP address and port number of the last logged-on QuarkDispatch Server.
  • Mac OS X only: You can now launch the Activity Monitor on Mac OS after launching the QLA Server.
  • QuarkXPress no longer quits unexpectedly if you scroll through the Query palette that displays when QuarkXPress launches while the splash screen is still displayed in the background.
  • Mac OS X only: All menus except the Style, Component, and View menus are now enabled when you launch QuarkCopyDesk and log on to QuarkDispatch Server.
  • Mac OS X only: You can now use the up and down arrow keys to choose the drop-down menu options in the Header Information dialog box.
  • If QuarkDispatch Server quits unexpectedly, it refreshes and displays the correct connection list when you launch it again.
  • Mac OS X only: If you launch QuarkCopyDesk 3.5 or QuarkXPress 6.5 on the same computer where QuarkDispatch Server is running and enter the server details in the QuarkDispatch Log-On dialog box, the connection failure notification no longer displays.
  • QuarkCopyDesk no longer displays an alert when you check out a QuarkCopyDesk article created in U.S. English and attached it to a project that was created in an application other than QuarkXPress Passport.
  • An alert no longer displays when you check in a QuarkCopyDesk article that contains a period in its name and then duplicate it.
  • Mac OS X only: The maximize and minimize buttons now display correctly in the Query palette.
  • Mac OS X only: The file server log is now created on the QuarkDispatch Server.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkDispatch Manager no longer quits unexpectedly when you log on to QuarkDispatch Server, close the default Workspace window, click the QuarkDispatch Manager icon in the dock bar to activate the application, and then choose File > New Workspace to open a new Workspace window.
  • When you check in a new article that contains many components to QuarkCopyDesk, delete the first component of the article from the Query palette in QuarkXPress, select its index in the Header Information dialog box, and then click OK, no alert displays and you can successfully attach the article to the QuarkXPress project.
  • Mac OS X only: The system no longer displays a missing XTensions alert when you copy text from a component in a QuarkCopyDesk article, paste it into a new article, check in the article, and then check out the article.
  • Mac OS X only: When you append an XPress Preferences file to a QuarkDispatch configuration file, the XPress Preferences append conflict alert displays without truncating text.
  • Mac OS X only: When you choose the Article Defaults tab at the Section level while creating or editing a configuration file in QuarkDispatch Administrator and enter an input unit of measurement other than the default, the units in the other fields change automatically when you press Tab to access the different fields.
  • Mac OS X only: The auto-destination route of the first configuration file no longer displays in the Auto Routing Destination drop-down menu of the second configuration file in the following scenario:
    1. You open two configuration files.
    2. In the first file, you choose the Status Routing tab at the Section level and select an auto-routing destination from the Auto Routing Destination drop-down menu.
    3. In the second file, you choose an auto-routing destination.
  • Mac OS X only: The application no longer quits unexpectedly if you scroll through the Query palette that was left open the last time you logged off of QuarkDispatch Server. The Query palette displays when you launch QuarkXPress and log on to QuarkDispatch Server.
  • Mac OS X only: Long file names (more than 32 characters and fewer than 160 characters) no longer truncate when you check in files.
  • Mac OS X only: You can now use the mouse wheel to scroll through the content of the Query palette in QuarkCopyDesk and QuarkXPress.
  • Pages and articles no longer display in random order in the Query palette when you check out a QuarkXPress project that contains two or more pages with attachments, choose Project and Page view from the Display drop-down menu in the Query palette, and then check out or check in the pages or articles.
  • Mac OS X only: The Query palette now clearly distinguishes among the three Boolean states (TRUE, FALSE, and DONT CARE) for every query.
  • Mac OS X only: If you click Clear Fields in the Edit Query dialog box, the Boolean values also are cleared.
  • Mac OS X only: If the configuration files for QuarkDispatch Server 2.x and QuarkDispatch Server 3.5 are the same, and you archive several QuarkCopyDesk articles in QPS 2.x and restore them in QPS 3.5 to move them, the articles are no longer incorrectly routed to the user who performed the restore; instead, they are correctly routed to the groups.
  • Mac OS X only: A question mark that was displayed incorrectly has been removed from the text of the alert for project assignment to a group.
  • Mac OS X only: When you cancel the check-out of a locally stored checked-out document, the system cancels the check-out and deletes the local copy of the document without opening the document.
  • Mac OS X only: QuarkXPress no longer displays an empty dialog box when you double-click a checked-out and closed QuarkXPress project. Instead, the project opens.
  • Mac OS X only: When you add a component to an article in QuarkXPress German, the alert displays with the full text.
  • Mac OS X only: When you use the Query palette from within QuarkXPress to check in a QuarkXPress project that contains several layouts, each of which contains articles that are checked out, all the checked-out articles in the project check in.
  • Mac OS X only: You can now minimize then restore the Query palettes of QuarkXPress 6.5 and QuarkCopyDesk at the same time. The palettes no longer minimize to the dock bar.
  • Mac OS X only: All of the licensed users of QuarkDispatch Server can now log on simultaneously.
