QuarkCopyDesk 7 Box Shot

Product Overview

QuarkCopyDesk® 7 is an application for writing, picture editing, copyfitting, and seamless interaction with QuarkXPress® 7 to streamline collaboration processes..

Copyfit precision through QuarkXPress 7 compatibility

Layouts created in QuarkXPress 7 can easily be exported to QuarkCopyDesk and all attributes such as style sheets, article geometry, hyphenation, and justification rules are maintained. This means users see the same graphically rich pages as designers do and know the precise article geometry.

Galley, Full Screen, or WYSIWYG views display precise information on how the copy fits in the layout, including underset or overset amounts, word and line counts, and line and column breaks. The revised copy always fits perfectly within the QuarkXPress layout.

QuarkCopyDesk 7 can easily exchange text with Microsoft® Word, WordPerfect®, QuarkXPress Tags, other word processing formats, and even HTML. Text can also be imported from previous versions of QuarkCopyDesk.

Professional image manipulation and picture effects – NEW in QuarkCopyDesk 7!

QuarkCopyDesk 7 users greatly benefit from comprehensive image-manipulation capabilities. QuarkCopyDesk 7 supports all picture formats that are supported by QuarkXPress 7. Even Photoshop® (.psd) files are supported and can be placed in QuarkCopyDesk 7 articles.

Images in picture boxes and anchored picture boxes can be scaled, cropped, rotated, and flipped.  And picture editing in QuarkCopyDesk does not stop here. Adjustments to brightness and contrast, as well as blur, mask, and despeckle filters can be applied, too.

Built-in collaboration and communication features

Through Articles XTensions software, articles can be created directly in QuarkXPress 7. The structure, meaning the article elements, like headline, lead-in, body text, picture, and caption, are defined in QuarkXPress.

The simplest way of collaboration entails handing over the QuarkXPress file to a QuarkCopyDesk user who simply opens that QuarkXPress project and edits the article. If a QuarkXPress project contains more than one article, the QuarkCopyDesk user is prompted and can choose which article he wants to edit. In such a serial workflow, one user works on an article at a time.

Parallel workflows — in which a group of people work on a layout and several articles simultaneously — are easy to achieve as well. In this case, every article is exported from QuarkXPress as a QuarkCopyDesk file. The QuarkCopyDesk user only gets those pages that contain a single article, including, of course, the same graphically rich pages as designers do. That way the designer keeps the layout, and each article can be edited by another writer.

It is even possible to create articles as part of QuarkXPress® Composition Zones®.

And it works the other way around as well. Articles can be created in QuarkCopyDesk 7 and imported into QuarkXPress 7 layouts.

All of the above enables designers and writers to work in parallel in simple and easy file-system based workflows, even without a workflow system.

Reviewing articles without using QuarkCopyDesk is also simple. Any article can be easily exported as a PDF in three pre-defined resolutions: optimised, high, and low.

Electronic Notes can be placed directly in the article text and travel along with the article, even when it is imported into QuarkXPress. Edits can be copied and pasted. Notes can be printed all from a single document. Specifying custom Notes background colours improves the ability to track, implement, and archive feedback.

Redlining simplifies edit tracking. Tracking changes in QuarkCopyDesk articles provides production teams with a clear record of any and all changes. Tracking changes also provides a new method for collaborative editorial communication — allowing you to view insertions and deletions made in an article, along with the details of who made each particular change.

Other important features:

  • Master Components allows you to partly create an article’s geometry.
  • QuarkXPress is both Unicode® and OpenType® compliant.
  • Files created in QuarkCopyDesk versions 2.2 and higher can be opened in QuarkCopyDesk 7.
  • Like QuarkXPress 7, QuarkCopyDesk 7 offers Split Views that are updated in real-time — either multiple views in one window or several windows.
  • The new Measurements palette is context sensitive for text and picture editing.
